How Does ESWT Work?

ESWT treatment is one of the few medical technologies best suited for people with chronic conditions that have not responded well to traditional, conservative therapy. A typical ESWT therapy session is described here, as well as additional health benefits:

  • First, the patient is comfortably situated for the procedure, with technicians ensuring their safety and comfort during the process. Those two things are equally important to us so we will do everything to ensure a positive experience, regardless.
  • During the procedure, wave pressure stimulates the production of fibroblasts and tenocytes by means of a cavitation process. Fibroblast or tenocyte cells form the connective tissues of your body, such as tendons and fascia.
  • As a result of treatment, ESWT reduces pain in the treated injury. The procedure over-stimulates the nerves that communicate with the brain’s pain receptors, thus promoting recovery. Futhermore, recovery time isn’t extensive, meaning no time off work or medical leave is necessary for this treatment.
  • Because ESWT was originally used to treat kidney stones, it can also break down pathological calcifications (otherwise known as a spur), as a result. Although this may not be the goal, depending on your condition, it is an interesting by-product, however. In all cases, the condition which causes the spur is what ESWT targets, and not the spur itself.

A Range of ESWT Treatments

Nearly 25 years ago, ESWT was created by Dornier MedTech and originally conceived for kidney stone as well as gallstone treatment. Since then, it has been used to treat other ailments as well. Physicians realize that Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) provides as many benefits for other bodily issues whereas traditional treatments might not.

Today, the Dornier EPOS Ultra is used to treat plantar fasciitis and is also FDA Class 3 approved for ESWT treatment. Additionally, the tendinopathy treatment methods we use are not only effective but also safe. For instance, Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis), shoulder tendonitis, as well as patellar tendonitis are just some injuries for which ESWT is used. Regardless, our therapy is proven to not only get you back to where you were, but also improves your quality of life.

To explain, the only FDA device approved for treatment of tendonitis and fasciitis is the High Energy ESWT Dornier EPOS Ultra. However, some manufacturers attempted to establish their devices as ESWT machines. Although their efforts are promising, their machines only offer minimal long term relief. In contrast, the technology we employ targets the problem directly. Not only does it promote relaxed muscles, but also triggers relief from joint pain. Therefore, you can trust High Energy ESWT with the Dornier Epos Ultra as your ultimate, curative procedure, regardless.

Because of our success, we are committed to our physicians and also our patients alike. Consequently, Excellence Shock Wave Therapy stands out from others. It’s not only our profession, but also our obsession to provide patients with comfortable, convenient as well as safe treatment, in any event.

HOW EFFECTIVE IS ESWT?

From our own experience, as well as the FDA ESWT study using our treatment protocol, success rates are astonishing. In the study, a single group of 150 patients were presented with a 1 to 10 scale and asked to give their pain level. Altogether, the average pain level before treatment was 7.7.

Then, after receiving one ESWT treatment, the same group of patients were asked to present their level of pain one year after. Altogether, the patients who reported had an average pain score post-ESWT of 0.6. In brief, this is a 92% reduction in pain, and a much higher rate of success than any non-surgical or surgical procedure. Also, observing the results is clear that ESWT provides more benefits for the long term whereas traditional treatments may not be as generous.
